The last time you walked out the door
I did not know I would see you no more
My heart was broken. I loved you so
It was SO hard to let you go.
Oh yes -Pain does ease with time
And I give thanks for all the times
We spent, sharing love unconditionally
That last precious evening when traditionally
I should have said "Time for bed"
But we spent MAGICAL hours together instead.
We talked that evening about so much
School, love, fun, family and such.
Covered your new school books ere
Bathing you, shampooing your hair.
On brushing it 'twas like touching silk
Then we ate Jaffa cakes and you drank your milk.
"Thank you for giving me your time" you said
As I finished your book for you, sat on your bed.
How you loved "The Darling Buds Of May"
No inkling of the trauma coming our way.
Grief is hard to bear, as I know well
But regret and remorse must be like hell.
So to all you folk 'out there' I say
Please tell your family "I love you" everyday.
Jane's mother Dorothy Perry wrote the above poem.
